The Vines follow up their successful debut Highly Evolved with Winning Days and manage to avoid the sophomore jinx. Unlike many hands out there, the new material displays signs of maturity without the expense of the sound dramatically changing. The title track and "Amnesia" are mellow and shows the band's psychedelic influences/5().

As uneven as the Vines' albums could be, they were always a first-rate singles band. Craig Nicholls and crew's knack for cranking out sunny pop and abrasive but melodic rock is undeniable, and The Best of the Vines delivers their singles and the tracks that sounded like singles. The collection begins with the big hits ("Get Free," "Ride," and "Highly Evolved"), then shows off some of the Vines.

So there you have it, a review of Winning Days by The Vines. This is an excellent album, well worth you 15 dollars or whatever you pay for CD’s in your area. I’ll close with some pros and cons and such. Pros: 1) Beautiful songs 2) Excellent songwriting courtesy of Craig Nichols 3) Reminiscent of classic, 60’s, psychedelic music.
